Reading the Bible

Wil Perez

You don't need to be a pastor or Bible scholar to begin reading Scripture.

The Bible is how we learn who God is, what He has done, what He desires, and how He has called us to live.

Think of Scripture as your straight line.

There are going to be many voices telling you what is right, what is wrong, who you should be, and how you should live.

God's Word gives you something to compare those voices against.

But don't read the Bible only to collect information.

James tells us not to merely hear the Word—we are called to do what it says.

Where should I start?

Start with the Gospel of John.

Read one chapter at a time.

As you read, ask:

What does this show me about God?

What does this show me about people?

Is there something I need to believe, obey, stop, or begin?

How can I apply this today?

You don't have to understand everything immediately.

Keep reading. Keep asking questions. Keep learning.

Take Your Next Step

Read John 1.

Write down one thing you learned about Jesus.

That's it.

You're building a habit.
