The Gospel

Wil Perez

The word Gospel means good news.

But to understand why the news is so good, we first have to understand the problem.

The Bible teaches that all of us have sinned.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23

Sin isn't only the terrible things we see people do. Sin is our rebellion against God and falling short of His standard. Every one of us needs forgiveness.

And we couldn't fix that problem ourselves.

That's why Jesus came.

Jesus lived without sin, died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead. He took upon Himself what we deserved so that we could receive something we could never earn: forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life.

That's grace.

You aren't saved because you became a good enough person. You aren't saved because you attend church. You aren't saved because you prayed enough, gave enough, or fixed everything in your life.

Salvation is a gift from God received through faith in Jesus Christ.

What do I do?

Jesus calls us to repent and believe.

Repentance means more than feeling bad about what you've done. It means turning from sin and turning toward God.

Faith means putting your trust in Jesus—who He is, what He did, and allowing Him to become Lord of your life.

Following Jesus doesn't mean you'll never struggle again.

It means you no longer belong to the life you once lived.

You have begun a new one.

Think About It

What am I trusting Jesus to save me from?

Have I simply felt sorry about my sin, or am I willing to turn from it and follow Him?

Take Your First Step

Read John 3 today.

Before you read, pray something simple:

“Jesus, help me understand who You are. Show me what You want to change in me, and teach me how to follow You.”
